The “SIMPLON”
Transparent Bevelled Edge French Curves
Set of 4
Made in England
This is a boxed set of four "Simplon" French curves made of a green tinted, transparent plastic with bevelled edges.
They were "Made in England" during the mid-twentieth century by Dargue Brothers Limited of Halifax under the trade name of “Simplon”.
The set comprises numbers 10, 13, 14 and 15 curves and it retailed for 9/- with no purchase tax. Three of the four curves are still in their original cellophane bag. All curves have been used and some may show pencil marks.
This is quite a comprehensive set and can be used for all manner of drawing and design work where a pencil or knife are needed to transfer shapes to paper or fabric, or have them as a curiosity of how things used to be done.
The original Simplon box is rather squashed and dirty, with aged and loose sticky tape and a few small chunks out of it, but reasonably intact for its age.
Dargue Bros was a well known maker of drawing and calculating instruments.
Overall measurement of the box: 240 mm x 115 mm x 10 mm.
Unpacked weight: 125 g
(All weights and measures are as close as possible.)
