Pure retro chic. This set - twin handled bowl and matching saucer/underplate from the esteemed Poole England Poole Pottery comes in a subtle mushroom and sepia colour combination. The bowl is mushroom shade inside with milk chocolate brown sepia colour (named after squid ink) on the outside. The saucer is mushroom on the front face and a warm creamy glazed ivory on the base. Poole Pottery has an impressive history. The two colour velum glazes which are so characteristic of Poole tableware date back to 1936. Our sepia and mushroom combination (later coded C54) was one of the first five to be developed. Further colour combinations were added later. After WWII the range was named Twintone and remained in production right up until 1981. Twintone glazes are described as ‘semi-matt’ or ‘vellum’ because of their smooth feel and soft sheen, and they always come in two distinctive colours like ours. Since production ceased over 20 years ago it has now become quite difficult to obtain items of Mushroom and Sepia in good condition as these are with no cracks nor scratches and colour and finish intact; some ever so slight edge wear if close inspection is made. This listing is for one bowl and its matching saucer . The pieces bear a backstamp identifying manufacture between 1959 and 1970 Additional sets are available. Please convo us if you are interested. Approximate measurements: Bowl is 13cm diameter without handles and 17 cm diameter with handles. Saucer is 17.5cm diameter . A total of 5 sets may be available- see last two photo.
