Rare antique early 19th century map. Engraved with strong original hand color. Map has some age condition issues: Left side margin age browned and chipped with some slight loss touching inside the distance graticule lines. Splitting along bottom foldlines, some offsetting from facing engraving. Overall the image is clean, well preserved and very attractive. A nice looking map despite the age flaws. Given the rarity and low price, great inexpensive space filler in a map collection. New Zealand seen at lower left, wide assortment of islands named. Undeniably a very scare map only issued within what is today a very rare monumental large folio sheet world atlas issued early in the 19th century. Only a wealthy household would have owned the atlas within which this map appeared, making it scarce today in all instances. If we were discussing 19th century numismatics, we'd be discussing the equivalent of Proof issues versus more common circulating ones. Original fold lines as issued.
