It features a wreath of ivy, a Monarch of the Glen stag’s head over a duke’s crown and the motto “BYDAND”. It is the crest of the Gordon Clan. The motto translates to “Steadfast”. The clan come mainly from Aberdeenshire. It is an authentic piece of Scottish jewellery as worn by members of the clan in full Scottish attire. It is designed to hold the tartan plaid on the shoulder. It has a strong long pin and hook hasp fitting. It is of superior quality and simply marked “SILVER” for sterling quality. It has the retailer’s mark of “A.G.J Smith Aberdeen” . It would appear that the chief of the clan supported the local businesses. It is a piece that would have been worn by a wealthy member of the clan. The midland Scots clan has a long history dating back to the 12th century. The Chief of Clan Gordon is Granville Charles Gomer Gordon, 13th Marquess of Huntly, Earl of Enzie, Earl of Aboyne, Lord Gordon of Badenoch, Lord Gordon of Strathavon and Glenlivet, Baron Meldrum of Morven. We have listed several pieces of Gordon attire including sporran, belt plates (buckles) and formal wear ghillie brogues. The brooch is in very good vintage condition with no faults or damage.
