Item:123390636094eBay Listing Template r1 RARE SIGNED PAIR 3 1/2" HINGES: J.L. HAVEN CINCINNATI, OHIO CIRCA 1870 (3211) Wonderful matched pair of J.L. HAVEN & A.C. GARDNER 3 1/2" X 3 1/2" heavy iron hinges, circa 1840-1860. J.L. HAVEN was a hardware distributor in Cincinnati in the mid to late 1800's. It is likely that Haven distributed the hinges to hardware company's like A.C. Gardner's and that all the hinges were actually manufactured by The Eagle Iron Works, owned by Miles Greenwood in Cincinnati. In any event, hinges of this style and type were used heavily in the new developments along the Ohio River in the early and mid 1800's. Old homes and barns in this area, particularly those predating the Civil War, are often found with Greenwood hinges and those that do not have the Greenwood signature often carry the J.L. Haven and/or A. C. Gardner signature like these. We have bead blasted this pair and both the J.L. Haven and the Gardner signatures are easily visible. Wonderful condition, they can be used again for another 180 years! Cast steel, ready for your project! We will ship via Boxed USPS Priority Mail within the USA.
