It is grown large scale commercially there and other parts of North Africa for their own consumption and export to Europe. The fruit has an eye-catching appearance. It is round to oblong in shape, lightly ribbed with a rind that starts out green, then turns tan at maturity. This rind has rows of large warts that run end to end and are the last thing to change colour. Pumpkin warting is usually caused by sugar deposits just under the skin. The flesh is bright orange, medium firm, moist and sweet with a lovely aroma. The flesh colour and seed arrangement make it look exactly like a rockmelon when cut. Given their origin, the vines thrive in warm to hot weather, are good producers, but will take around 115 days till harvest.Because we are growing the fruit for the seed and not so much the flesh, we leave the ripe fruit in the field longer than normal which causes some of the outstanding rind colour to fade. RECOMMENDED TO TRY. Minimum 10 SEEDS. Cannot send to W.A. We test grow each variety first to ensure they will perform in Australian conditions.
