Description

A pair of mid 19th century gilt bronze and red veined marble candlesticks.  No makers marks, but almost certainly Italian and around 1850-70 in date.  They are modelled as cherubs holding aloft the sconces via a foliate band.  They have metal plinths which are mounted to the deep red turned marble bases.  You may note the difference in height in the images, partly due to the sconce collars being slightly different, and the foliate band being shorter on one.  They must certainly be from the same factory however as the modelling is the same.  Previously converted for electric, now set back as candlesticks.  

Condition

Normal period wear and aging as you would expect with some rubbing of the gilt and a few chips to the marble bases.  They had an early 20th century conversion to electricity; I have removed the cables and fittings, setting them back as candlesticks - as such there are holes in the sconces and collars (where the cables went).  Height difference due to collars and foliate bands.  Sconce leans a little on the shorter one.  Green felts to bases are replacements.
