Glass Gem Rainbow Corn 35 Organic Australian Grown Heirloom Seeds FREE Postage.
Glass Gem Corn Seeds. 35 seeds
Glass gem is a flint corn variety, also sometimes called Indian corn (as opposed to dent, or field corn, sweetcorn, and popcorn) which means that it’s used for grinding into cornmeal or cornflour rather than as a fresh vegetable. It might work as popcorn, although it’s not specifically a popping variety. You could probably pick it when it’s still young, and roast it; most grinding corn can be used for roasting as well if you pick it at the right stage of development.
Popular maize corn with multi-coloured kernels which have a translucent glass appearance. Plants grow up to 3m tall and produce 2-3 cobs per plant. This unique rainbow corn can be used as a popping corn or ground into cornmeal. Kernels are hard and dense, this variety is often referred to as a 'flint' corn due to the hard casing surrounding the kernel.
Corn cobs need to remain on the plant until the husks are completely dry before harvesting. This is important to allow the corn to develop the coloured kernels. Once harvested the husks should be removed and cobs need to be air-dried for a week or two prior to being popped or ground.
I will send you a package of 35 random seeds as seen in the sample pictures above. I grew this corn in my own garden, it's such a joy to harvest! Thank you for looking!
