NVIDIA Shield Pro Android TV - Customized - Up to 2TB Internal SSHD, SSD

NOTE: This listing is for either a 2015 or 2017 model Shield Pro, not the newly-released 2019 model. 2019 models HAVE NO INTERNAL DRIVE, just a 16GB memory chip, and thus cannot be upgraded except with a USB external. The 2015 and 2017 model Shield Pros have been discontinued since November 2018, but we will continue to offer them as long as we can find supply of certified open box or lightly used units. Prices will reflect what we are currently able to obtain these units for.

Note we cannot upgrade the base model 2015 or 2017 Shields, nor either of the 2019 Shields, as they have no internal drive mounting or connection options.

This is an NVIDIA Shield Pro (2015 or 2017 model) with custom-capacity storage. This Shield Pro is like any Shield Pro you would get from a retailer, except it has up to four times the storage space and up to ten times the storage speed depending on the storage option you select. If you're wanting more space for using the Shield Pro as a media server, or lightning fast performance, our customized version will deliver exactly that.

All work is performed at a workbench by a professional, certified technician observing full ESD precautions. The Shield Pro will be used by the technician in order to install the system software on the the upgraded drive, verify functionality, and perform stress testing to ensure there are no problems before being expertly repackaged exactly as they come from the factory. We will also update the firmware of peripherals (controller, remote) to the latest version and top off their battery charge.

CONCERNING HANDLING TIME: Typically, Shields are built, tested, and shipped within 2-4 business days. However, occasionally failures crop up in testing, sometimes multiple times, and can require a few rebuilds and swapping components to get a unit working right. This is extremely rare, but we have the 10 day handling time in place to account for that, and we have such stringent testing in order to make sure you don't have any need to return your Shield to us. Please be patient and we will get your order out ASAP!

Please be aware, this is a mod, even if very professionally done. Unlike, for instance, a PlayStation or a PC, the Shield Pro is NOT designed to have the internal factory drive upgraded or modified by the user. Upgrading it WILL void the factory NVIDIA warranty. However, we do provide our own limited warranty on work, and will provide warranty service for as long as the drive installed is under its manufacturer warranty. We also perform extensive testing to be positive there is nothing at all wrong with the Shield prior to shipment. Please see the end of the listing for details. As an aside, we have recently developed a method, which we have been using on all 2017 model Shield Pros, of performing the upgrades that does NOT require unlocking or otherwise modifying the bootloader, so your Shield also stays as secure as it was from the factory.

Upgrading the drive is a very involved, precise, and time-consuming process including directly reprogramming the drive to work with the Shield and manipulating delicate small parts that were not designed to ever be touched by the user. However, we have been performing this upgrade since March 2016 with no failures thus far; our two technicians are very experienced with the work and know exactly what they're doing. Our upgrades have been 100% compatible with all NVIDIA software and Android OTA system updates issued since the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow and continue to function flawlessly. We have a 2015 model demo unit that has been functioning and accepting updates without issue since March 2016, and it's still in service.

REGARDING STANDARD HARD DISK DRIVES (HDD): The Shield system software was designed to work with at least a solid state hybrid drive (SSHD). Due to customer dissatisfaction with their slow speed and the now-minimal upcharge of a SSHD compared to a HDD, we have permanently discontinued HDDs as an option but are unable to remove it from the listing. NO NEW STOCK WILL BE AVAILABLE.

Please note our Shield Pros are build-to-order, NOT pre-built. Pre-built means they are pre-assembled and sitting around on shelves. Build-to-order means they are assembled to your specifications at the time of order. They will be in assembly and testing for a few days prior to shipment. If we encounter a failure in testing and that delays completion while we replace the part and re-test, we will contact you to let you know the status. Our quality control takes a bit longer, but it works: we've currently had only ONE return for repair in the past two years.

Before purchasing we highly recommend familiarizing yourself with the different types of drives and choosing what best meets your needs:

• Standard Hard Disk Drive

    •    2-Year Manufacturer Warranty

    •    These are standard platter-pased hard disk drives. They don't offer a speed advantage over stock HDDs, however they offer far higher capacity. If the extra speed boost is unneeded, but enormous capacity is required, these are an excellent option.

• Solid State Hybrid Disk *** NO LONGER AVAILABLE - SEAGATE HAS DISCONTINUED THEIR 2.5" SOLID STATE HYBRID DRIVE LINE ***

    •    5-Year Manufacturer Warranty

    •    These are magnetic platter-pased hard disk drives like standard HDDs, but with an embedded 8GB SSD that the drive uses to significantly speed up the Shield's operating system and your most frequently-played games or most frequently-used media. Hybrid drives monitor your usage patterns and add the most frequently used files to the 8GB SSD. Hybrids are a great option for getting some of the snappiness and quick load times of full SSDs but without the high price.

    •    Solid State Disks offer the ultimate in performance. They can perform up to 10x as fast as a HDD at accessing sequential data, and up to 1000x as fast at accessing random data. They're also silent, low power, cool, and are ultra-reliable. Your SSD will probably outlive your console even with heavy usage. If you want the ultimate in performance across the board, an SSD is the option you want.

WARRANTY: Ravendyne will warrant against defects in workmanship within 45 days of receipt of the item, and against drive failure for a period of 1 year. After 1 year, Ravendyne will replace the drive at standard technician rates for the remainder of the drive's manufacturer warranty. Buyer pays any return shipping. Our customizations VOID the original manufacturer warranty as the internal storage was not meant to be modified. However, we will extensively test the hardware prior to completing it to make sure nothing fails or is on the verge of failure prior to working on the Shield so that the likelihood you'd ever use the manufacturer's 1 year warranty will be extremely low. The warranty does not cover end user abuse or modifications and we reserve the right to refuse warranty service if it is discovered the console has been tampered with.

RETURN POLICY:  In order to keep prices low, we don't like to maintain any inventory of used items. That said, we do offer returns, managed by eBay's automated returns system. There is a 20% restocking fee on non-defective returned items. For an item that arrives DOA or is otherwise non-working, the restocking fee will be waived and a full refund issued or replacement shipped. Buyer pays return shipping. All serial numbers are logged before shipment, so please make sure you return the exact same hardware that you received, with all original documentation, box, cabling, peripherals, and any voucher codes included and unused, or the return will be refused and a dispute opened. Damaged or broken items will similarly be refused unless damaged in transit, in which case a claim with the carrier must be filed immediately as all hardware is insured for its full value when shipped.
