DESCRIPTION: Made in Macau and first released in 1981 this model Folding Wing S2 Jet in Light Blue is in mint condition being in its original box which is still sealed.

BOX: Remains sealed but has suffered some crushing and is torn - perspex although creased is clear and free from splits.

GAUGE / SCALE: Matchbox vehicles have never been scaled corrrectly and originally were known merely as 'Box Scale' (made to fit the box). Matchbox 1-75 and Superfast vehicles vary in scale and can be anything between 1:50 / 1:110 therefore we have assumed the same caption for all later manufactured models.

GRADE: C10 - Mint

NB: Our grading system was obviously created for Die-cast models and is occasionally applied to others (plastic vehicles, locomotives, rolling stock, etc.) to help give an indication of an items condition or comparison against a new one of the same type. In these instances it can only be used to compare appearance and not operational suitability.

FINALLY - OUR GRADING SYSTEM:

Like any other collecting sector when it comes to models (particularly the older die-cast models) there is no real substitute for experience when seeking to add an original to your collection. Here at Herod Models we try our best to provide an accurate opinion as to condition and always aim to market at a realistic price. We base our grading on the captions below whose definitions and descriptions are taken from a widely recognised grading standard used by museums. Modifications have been made to accommodate most models. It has become a generally accepted practice to grade items using a numerical scale commencing at the low end (good) with the number 1 and rising to 10 (as new) at the top. It is further generally accepted that this scale be sub-divided by increments of ½ which although not clearly defined can be useful when grading a particular item; for example an 8½ might well be a 9 were it not for a very minor scratch being clearly evident somewhere on the body. Whatever the grading system used (and we are aware of some web-sites/stores have only six levels) grades will always be subjective. What to one collector is slight scratch and therefore not important may well render the item as being totally unworthy of collecting by another. Further confusion is created by collectors themselves who almost always have a tendency to over-estimate the grade of their own models and so standards constantly vary. In developing our grading structure we have made every attempt at providing some clarity by which our own standards are set and we hope this guide also proves to be an asset to you. when building your collection. One final note - where boxes are listed together with an item we will give a brief but individual description. If the box is a reproduction, we will say so, and if it is original we'll try to describe its condition as accurately as possible but they will not carry the same grading structure as the models themselves.

GRADE DESCRIPTION
N/A - Not Applicable Grading is not applicable to this item - This is the usual denomination given to items that are brand new or unus ed.
C01 - Good Minor parts missing, paintwork in a very distressed condition with severe scratch marks and chipping. Plastic windscreen or windows are likely cracked and/or broken. You might also find in this category an item in otherwise new condition but with a major imperfection such as a hole in the casting or with a piece broken completely away. But whatever it can be generally said that a grade C01 item will clearly display many faults.
C02 - Good to Very Good Extreme scratching and chipping. Portions of paint scraped to reveal bare metal. Cracked or split plastic windscreen. Broken, bent or missing minor parts. An example road vehicle might exhibit a broken exhaust pipe, a train a missing hand rail or broken coupling either of which would render the item a C02 regardless of its condition otherwise. Generally speaking models in this category would be used for parts only or as a starting point for a complete restoration project. Very poor repaints or attempted restorations will also be graded C02.
C03 - Very Good Severe scratching, chipping and/or toning. Very noticeable wheel wear and likely some bending of the axles, connecting or coupling rods. Underside/base can be heavily tarnished. Fair quality repaints or restorations would also be considered a fit in this category.
C04 - Very Good to Fine Scratches are very noticeable and go through to the primer or base metal. Leading body edges evidence chipping. This grade is probably the lower limit that most collectors would consider for display. Often denoted as a ‘filler’ (used for completing a set or for display until such time a better example can be found).
C05 - Fine Both paint and decals are scratched or chipped. Some discoloration or dulling (dark patches, toning) of the painted, chromed or bare metal surfaces. Good quality repaints or restorations would also be considered a fit in this category.
C06 - Excellent Scuffing becomes scratches or small chips but they are unlikely deep enough to penetrate to the bare metal. Equally decal scratches may be evident but not into or through the finish coat. Any scratching should be confined to less than 10% of the body surface. In summary visible small scratches, chips, discolorations in paint, slight wheel wear all demonstrating very clear evidence of use. C06 is what might be called an average collectible condition.
C07 - Excellent to Near Mint Some scuffing to the painted or chromed surfaces, as would result from continual handling but not serious enough to be called scratching or that has resulted in discoloration. Additional scuffing to the surface of wheels. None of the axles, connecting or coupling rods or other parts can be bent or deformed. More wear than C08 and possibly displaying a tarnished base.
C08 - Near Mint As new except for some visible scuffing to the surface of the wheels resulting from being rolled or played with. The main body may evidence a barely noticeable scratch / chip or very minor defect. Possibly displaying  a clearly crooked decal.
C09 - Near Mint to Mint Otherwise new except for a slight but noticeable imperfection. Slight is defined as an imperfection that is noticeable only upon close critical examination. For example, a small pin-prick in the paint, a decal might be slightly misaligned or the base, wheels or decals might evidence minor tarnishing.
C10 - Mint The item is as new with no visible flaws – it is in perfect condition. Basically as it was when it left the manufacturer, unused, never played with.
