This record is by Led Zeppelin the English rock band formed in London in 1968. The group comprised vocalist Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham. With a heavy, guitar-driven sound, they are cited as one of the progenitors of heavy metal, although their style drew from a variety of influences, including blues and folk music. Initially unpopular with critics, they achieved significant commercial success with eight studio albums over ten years. Page composed most of Led Zeppelin's music, particularly early in their career, while Plant wrote most of the lyrics. Jones's keyboard-based compositions later became central to their music, which featured increasing experimentation. Led Zeppelin’s total record sales are estimated to be between 200 and 300 million units worldwide. They achieved eight consecutive UK number-one albums and six number-one albums on the US Billboard 200, with five of their albums certified Diamond.
Physical Graffiti is the band’s sixth studio album, released as a double album on 24 February 1975 in the United States and on 28 February 1975 in the United Kingdom, it was the group's first album to be released under their new label, Swan Song Records. The original total playing time covered just under three sides of an LP, so they decided to expand it into a double album by including previously unreleased tracks from the sessions for the band's earlier albums. The album was then mixed over summer 1974 and planned for an end-of-year release; however, its release was delayed because the album cover proved difficult to manufacture. Physical Graffiti was commercially and critically successful upon its release and debuted at number one on album charts in the UK and number three in the US. Physical Graffiti has been certified 16 x Platinum in the United States.
