WATERSLIDE APPLICATION GUIDE.
Below is a guide designed to help you get the best result with these water slide decals. Please note, decals with multiple graphics & texts are intended to be cut out and applied separately to allow for correct positioning.
In most cases you'll notice that your decal has been printed in reverse (see 'reverse image' directions), do not worry they are designed this way in order to make application as easy as possible!
It also allows for a thin coat of metallic paint to be applied to some decals during the production phase.
Please note that if your gold/silver decal looks a little imperfect in its 'reversed' position do not despair , it will not appear this way once applied! The black outlines hide the paint on the edges giving a flawless appearance.
Beware of “Silvering” ; a phenomenon caused by applying a water slide decal to a slightly unsmooth or matted paint surface.
Air gets trapped in microscopic pits preventing the decal contacting the surface properly causing a silver shadow under the decal.
To prevent this happening ensure that the surface is glossed and then smoothed with a sanding block and 2000 grit wet&dry paper.
There are products available designed to eliminate the silvering effect if it does occur.
One example is Humbrol decal-fix solution. It is important to recognise that Silvering is not a failure of the decal, it is an error of the application process.
We have provided you with an extra water slide decal to allow you to perfect your technique prior to applying your decal.
1) Ensure application surface is smooth and clean.
2) Cut your decals from the sheet. Cut around individual decals leaving approx’ 2mm gap at edge .
3) Wipe surface with clean damp cloth and apply decal face down (backing paper up) directly onto the target area.
4) Place clean wet (not dripping) cloth on top of decal and wait for approximately 1 minute (as with a kids fake tattoo) .
5) Move decal to desired position whilst STILL ON BACKING PAPER, then carefully SLIDE BACKING PAPER OUT while applying light pressure to decal with damp cloth.
6) Using fingers and a soft damp paper towel, align and smooth out all wrinkles and air bubbles.
7) Allow decal to dry.
8) An acrylic lacquer should be applied over the decal to prevent damage & to give the best finish .
(Decal is removable and susceptible to damage if no finish is applied.)
