What an extraordinary find! Cool, antique lockset salvaged from the front entry door of an 1870's home in Chatham, NY (see last 3 photos). The set consists of a rim lock and keeper, 1 decorative brass key, & 5 steel installation screws. The lock and keeper are made of cast iron, and the lock's latches are solid brass. We salvaged the entire entranceway of the home back in 2010. Since then, we've sold everything but the doorbell and this lock. We have been looking for a key big enough to modify to fully engage the lock's deadbolt latch. Unfortunately, even the largest key we've ever found still isn't big enough. It's head fits into the keyhole perfectly and the key will stay in there on it's own, however, if you turn it, it only budges the latch about 1/8". You will need a key with a head (bit length) longer than 1" in order to engage the deadbolt. Although the lock and keeper look brass plated; it's just gold-colored paint. Much of the gold paint is missing, but fortunately, almost all of the lock's original black paint is intact. The lower right corner of the plate, which covers the internal parts was broken in two when we removed it. We were able to re-secure the pieces using industrial strength epoxy. There is a scar, however, once the lock is installed the plate will be touching the door and will never be visible. The exterior of the lock is in great shape with only small nicks and light scratches; no breaks, chips, dents, gouges, or deep scratches. The inside of the lock is very clean considering the locks age. All parts move as they should and we greased them to facilitate their movement. Both springs are strong. This set ready for another lifetime of service!
