Gail English is inspired by the palette of nature: the pale ochres of paddocks, grey slicks of sky, pink hilltops, orange dust and burnt stubble. She started painting professionally in her fifties, before leaving Sydney for a barn on the mid-north coast of New South Wales. The sea-change felt right – a return to English’s childhood spent on a property near Young. In 2008, she won the Country Energy Prize for landscape.

‘Blue Gum’ is a testament to English's understanding of colour. In it, she captures trees, streaking down the page, silver, blue, red and white. Looking upon it conjures the scent of eucalyptus.

For collectors of landscape art and admirers of nature, widen your horizon with English.
