Known in Burma as chu, this curious sphere is a 19th century decorated elephant bell from Burma cast in quality bronze. The bell is incised with traditional floral motifs as well as the maker’s name in Burmese characters. The bronze has an oxidized patina and scratches and minor dents are present, consistent with age and use. Authentic antique elephant bells from Burma are scarce nowadays. A metal ball rolls around inside the bell and sounds against the bell wall making pleasant gentle notes. Bigpelican have been assigned to sell an Important & rare collection of bronze Antiquities.Selectively acquired by a private Sydney Collector over a number of decades from reputable dealers globally as well as field collected in remote areas of South East Asia.Mark's collection consists of unique antique Bronze & Brass pieces, many museum worthy .Some of these old pieces have been cast using the Lost Wax Method, therefore once cast never to be duplicated. Others have been selected based on the integrity of form & craftsmanship. A distinctive method of checking the authenticity of an old Bronze piece is its patina. As the Bronze ages so does the patina, it becomes darker and once ancient developing a verdigris & sharp edges that were once evident when the bronze piece was cast, are now worn away leaving a more smooth feel to the touch After much consideration Mark has decided to sell off his collections, as for most of the time the collection has been boxed and hidden away. Mark felt that it was now time to let others enjoy owning his beautiful, valuable collection of unique Bronze and Brass Antiques.
