These two antique urns were made at the Von Schierholz factory from the finest European porcelain in Thurungia, Germany circa 1865-1911. The urns are decorated with a selection of charming, allegorical portraits attributed to 18th century artist Angelica Kaufmann... exquisite hand painting, with each main scene different and signed Kaufmann.  Known for her popular Neo Classical style many of her paintings have been reproduced on ornamental items such as vases, dressing table sets, plates etc...

How rare to find a matching pair...

Items are just as collectable today as in the past...

A future heirloom to pass down...

Condition:

Generally very good antique condition with commensurate for age and use.   Pattern and colour all excellent.. no chips, fractures, crazing or discolouration. Some aged wear to the gold circular pattern.  The gold trim is still very good, particularly on the handles.  The handpainted scenes are all still very good too.  One of the urns is a teeny bit loose on its support, but very stable.

Considering age, they are both in remarkably good condition...

I suspect that both urns once had lids, but nonethless still lovely items...

Backstamp:

Crosshatch painted

Additional Info:

The Von Schierholz porcelain factory was established in 1817 in Plaue, Thuringia, Germany. The factory produced high-quality Dresden ware and is most famous for its Rococo, ornate Meissen-like and Secession style decorated porcelain. In the early 1900s, the company began exporting luxury wares worldwide with showrooms in Germany, Austria, France, and England. By 1967, the Von Schierholz Porcelain Factory celebrated its Diamond Jubilee. The Von Schierholz family operated the factory until 1972, when it was nationalized by the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) and became known as "VEB Porzellan Manufactur Plaue.”

In 1990, after the reunification of Germany, the Von Schierholz family reacquired the factory, and it became Von Schierholz’s Porzellan Manufactur Plaue G.m.b.H again. The factory continues today as Porzellanmanufaktur Plaue, Ltd. Products are still hand-made and hand-decorated.

Angelica Kaufmann, was a Swiss Neoclassical painter who had a successful career in London and Rome, primarily as a history painter.  Kauffmann was also a skilled portraitist, landscape and decoration painter.  Born in 1741, she was a child prodigy and acquired several languages.  Her father, a skilled artist, trained Angelica as his assistant, travelling through Switzerland, Austria, and Italy.  By her twelfth year she had become known as a painter, with bishops and nobles being her sitters. She became a popular portraitist for British visitors to Rome and by 1765 had moved to England establishing herself as a leading artist. The patronage of Lady Wentworth opened London society to her and she was well received with the royal family especially showing her great favor. She was one of the two female founding members of the Royal Academy in London in 1768.
