This Chinese Heirloom is a barrel type cabbage with an upright head, dark-green leaves and blanched interior.

It is a popular variety, which is used in salads, stir-fry or cooked.

WHEN TO PLANT:

  • Tropical Climate: Late Summer to Late Spring.
  • Warm Climate: Early Winter to Mid Autumn.
  • Cool Climate: Late Winter to Early Autumn.

HOW TO GROW:

  • Sow 5-10mm deep in full sun.
  • 40-60cm apart in rows 50-70cm apart.

HARVEST:

  • Harvest 70-100 days after sowing.

HINT:

  • Likes rich, well-drained soil.
  • Heads may split if allowed to become dry and then receive a lot of moisture; water evenly and regularly.

COMPANION PLANTS:

  • LIKES: Potato, Onion, Mint, Celery, Beetroot and Beans.
  • DISLIKES: Tomato and Strawberry.
