"Map of Central America Shewing the Different Lines of Atlantic & Pacific Communication, by James Wyld, Geographer to the Queen & HRH Prince Albert, Charing Cross East, ...., 1860"
A large and detailed map with inset sections for potential locations of a canal linking the Atlantic with the Pacific. On a heavy paper, subsequently lined verso, the sheet measures approx W86xH59cm (W34xH23.25inches) with a small tab at the bottom; issued with a vertical centrefold though the lining now would make it difficult to fold. Original hand colouring.
Condition is reasonable. Not ideal that it's been lined with paper, but what appears to be a very professional job, though now rubbed in quite a few places. The map itself is bright and clear. Trimmed right up to the top printed border, I think as issued. There is quite a bit of light mottled spotting; fairly unobtrusive. There are a number of internal creases, a couple of which are rather noticeable; the little tab at the bottom has a crease across its 'hinge'. The odd tiny bit of paper damage and a pinhole, but nothing obtrusive. Minor edge damage.
Not perfect but a pretty good example of this quite sought after map. Please take a look at the images.
I'll post it loosely rolled in a very wide diameter posting tube.
Many thanks for your interest. Please let me know if you’ve got any questions.
