About CMK:

Czech Master Kits, more commonly known as CMK, has been one of the Czech Republic's contributions to modeling since the mid-1990s. Originally it focused on production of resin cast kits but later production expanded and a range of resin detail accessories, detail sets, white metal accessories together with modelers' tools and aids was introduced. In addition, CMK also publishes monograph books focusing on interesting subjects which contain detailed scale drawings as well as original photographs and color profiles.

CMK company is well known to most modelers as producers of very high quality resin kits and etched brass conversion and detail sets for vehicles and aircraft in all scales. They have been a very early contributor to the small scale armor community and known as one of the best companies out there.

About the Model Kit:

Towards the end of WWII the American Army placed an order with the company Massey Harris for the production of the self-propelled gun used the undercarriage of the light tank M24 Chaffee, on which in a lightly armoured body the heavy 155mm howitzer was installed. The weapon had an elevation 45 degrees, a depression 5 degrees and sideways motion in a span +37/-37 degrees from the vehicle's longitudinal axis. For the main weapon 22 pieces of 155mm charges were carried, for the the 5 men crew 12 hand grenades and 0.45 and 0.30 ammunition destined for personal weapons were located in the vehicle.

The self-propelled vehicle was driven by a pair of Cadillac Model 42 V8 engines, which impaired to the vehicle a maximum speed of 35 mph and the drive range was 150 miles. The armor protection consisted of a fully armored body and an open armor plate protecting the combat space of the howitzer's gunners. The outfit included a standard radio station, further on the body's back wall a folding support securing the stability during fire was located.

Till the end of WWII 60 pieces were produced by the manufacturer from the total series of 250 pieces. The vehicles were not able to step in battles in Europe, but they took action actively in the Korean conflict, where their heavy firing power became evident at the support of own units during counter attacks of Chinese detachments. A record in the number of fired shells is held by the 92nd unit of field artillery nicknamed "Red Devils" , which fired 300,000 pieces of shells on the enemy. The vehicles were in the frame of the Military Assistance program supplied towards the end of the fifties to France.
