Just set the known value, and the desired value then calculation can be done directly on the scale. The housing of the binocular is filled with nitrogen gas to make it waterproof. It comes with a floating neck strap, holding the binoculars over water if it should accidentally go "over board". With the integrated vertical and horizontal reticle and the arithmetic scale, the distance to target or the height of the observed object can be measured or calculated.
