LIVING ROCK CACTUS (Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus var. Albiflorus) 10 seeds

Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus var. Albiflorus , known as the Living Rock Cactus, is a lovely cactus that is native to Mexico.

Ariocarpus are among the oddest and most interesting of all cacti.  Their native habitat is northeastern Mexico and on into southern parts of Texas. Ariocarpus are unlike many other spherical or columnar cacti in that most of the main body of the plant typically grows underground. In habitat, often all that is seen is the many pointed star pattern formed by the elongated tubercles protruding from the ground. The top of the plant is often nearly level with the surrounding ground and thus can make these hidden plants very difficult to find, when not in flower.  The cryptic nature and roughed texture of these plants have earned them the nickname "Living Rocks". Their habitat can reach extremely high temperatures throughout the summer, and so the plants have adapted to difficult conditions.

Ariocarpus kotschoubeyanus are very flat geophyte cacti that produce small star-shaped rosettes. They in most cases don't reach more than only a few centimetres above the ground. Although they can form clumps, often only a small disc of tubercles can be seen flat at the soil surface, however these plants grow a large tap root below the surface of the compost.

Stem: Usually solitary, rarely giving rise to side shoots from old areoles, flattened on top, depressed centrally.

Tubercles: The tubercles are deltoid dark olive green with no spines and lie flat on the soil surface. They are more long than wide, closely packed and divergent, sharply angled apically.

Areoles: The tubecles forms a central longitudinal areolar groove extending to the tips on the adaxial surfaces of the tubercles, woolly, 1-3mm wide, 5-10mm long. Flowers: These plants have a woolly crown, from which emerge white flowers up to 2.5-5cm, 2 times wider than long when fully expanded. Flowers are diurnal and last for 3 to 4 days.

Hardy to -10° C.

ALL SEED PACKAGES COME WITH A SET OF SEED PROPAGATION INSTRUCTIONS.

Combined Postage/Shipping:

If you purchase multiple packets of seeds then they will be posted/shipped in the cheapest envelope or parcel rate available. What you pay is what Australia Post charges me, plus a small handling fee to cover packing materials. Final postage total does depend on the seed varieties purchased as some species have larger/heavier seeds than others so cost more to post. I don't automatically charge extra for each purchase and in many cases a number of packets of seeds can be posted/shipped for just the one initial postage charge.

To get combined postage just make each purchase on Ebay but don't press the 'Pay Now' button after each purchase. Once you have finished buying, then press the 'Pay Now' button and an option appears at the top that says 'Request Total'. Press this one and I then get an email to tell me to combine the items into one invoice for combined postage. I then send you a final invoice for payment.

Australian buyers:  Paypal, Bank Deposit or Money Order.
