Antique Key BURBIDGE'S PATENT 1⅞" - ref.k238 Click images to enlarge Description Nickel plated brass key for a Burbidge patent glass barrel tap (SORRY, I DON'T HAVE A TAP) This is the scarcer of the two types and has a triangular end hole (not the standard square hole) 1877. Thomas Burbidge was at Surrey House, Penge before moving to 33 Charles Street E.C. until 5th November 1879. Then moved to 1879. 69 Hatton Garden E.C. from 7th November The taps were unique at the time as they were made of white metal and glass The wine or beer was only in contact with the glass so there was no metal taste as was the problem with the standard brass taps The taps were made at Union Foundry, Melksham, Wiltshire in a partnership with Mr Bedingfield In 1884 the entiuire contents of the foundry were sold off including 100 dozen taps, moulds and the patent I cannot find any other information after this date and I have never seen one of the glass taps other than in an illustration Approximately: 47.5mm (1⅞") in length 20g in weight A clean example - No rust General usage wear, knocks and marks Please note: This WILL NOT fit any lock you may already own (unless you are lucky enough to own a Burbidge glass tap with a triangular fitting) Several hundred more keys and padlocks are available in my ebay shop Pictures sell!
