The Vergulde Draeck (The Gilt Dragon) shipwreck - Western Australia:
This was a Dutch East Indies Company merchant ship which sank in 1656, after striking a submerged coral reef midway between what are now the coastal towns of Seabird and Ledge Point, Western Australia. Of the 193 crew on board at least 118 perished in the wreck. But of the survivors only 7 made it to the Dutch East Indies on a small boat, while the exact fate of the rest of the survivors on the WA coast remains unknown as later rescue expeditions never found anybody.
