Blanking grommets are essential components used to seal or plug unwanted holes in panels or sheet materials, particularly those that are often left behind when wires or cables are no longer needed. These grommets serve a specific purpose in various industries and applications. Here are some key points about blanking grommets:
Hole Sealing: Blanking grommets are designed to seal holes in panels, chassis, or sheet materials, ensuring that the openings are effectively closed. This prevents the ingress of dust, debris, moisture, or other environmental contaminants into the enclosed space.
Versatility: They can be used in a range of applications where holes or openings need to be plugged, such as electrical panels, automotive applications, furniture manufacturing, and more.
Material: Blanking grommets are typically made from rubber, which provides flexibility and resilience. This rubber material allows the grommets to conform to the shape of the hole and effectively seal it.
Firmness and Flexibility: Blanking grommets strike a balance between firmness and flexibility. This makes them easy to install by bending or compressing them to fit into the opening while ensuring a secure seal once in place.
Protection and Aesthetics: These grommets not only serve a protective function but also contribute to the overall aesthetics of the panel or surface by providing a neat and finished appearance.
Variety of Sizes: Blanking grommets come in various sizes to accommodate different hole diameters and shapes, ensuring a secure fit.
Blanking grommets are a practical solution for maintaining the integrity and appearance of panels and surfaces by sealing holes or openings effectively. They are a common choice for managing holes left behind from previous wiring or where wiring and cable management is not required, making them a versatile accessory in various industries.

How To MeasureThread Diameter
For most types of fasteners, the diameter is measured on the outside of the threads. (Note: US diameters under 1/4" are given as numbers (e.g #10) instead of inches, in order of increasing size. Information on sizes can be found using the THREAD TABLE tab.
To get an accurate size, a calliper should be used.
When measuring with a ruler, your eyes will not correctly measure the threads providing you with a wrong diameter. For example, you will see 2mm on a ruler but if measured in a caliper will be 2.8/2.9mm for a M3 size.
A easy way to confirm a size is by looking at what Allen Key size is used or diameter of head/across flats etc as most fasteners are made to a standard. If you need any help, please contact us.
Length
Fastener length is measured from where the material is assumed to be to the end of the fastener. Thus, Countersunk fasteners are measured overall and non-countersunk fasteners are measured from under the head.
Thread Count & Thread Pitch
Machine threaded fasteners specify a thread density in Threads Per Inch (US) or as a Thread Pitch in mm (Metric)
Getting the correct fasteners
Matching fasteners is important.
This 3/8" Hex Bolt has 16 Threads Per Inch which indicates it is a UNC Thread. You will need to find the matching 3/8" Nut with 16 TPI.

Stainless Steel
Stainless Steel offers good corrosion resistance, making it suitable for outdoor use and marine applications, but is more expensive than Zinc Plated.
Fasteners in grades A2 and A4, tend to be amongst the most popular ones across global markets. Grade A2, or as commonly known as 304 Stainless Steel is highly valued for its economical cost and delivering a good performance. Likewise, grade A4, or as known as 316 Stainless Steel is referred to as marine grade stainless steel. Due to its resistance to seawater and brine solutions, A4 screws work well in marine engineering applications.
Zinc Plated Steel
Zinc-plated steel is a type of low carbon steel that has been coated with a layer of zinc. This plating process is commonly used to provide several benefits to the steel, making it suitable for various applications.
It's important to note that while zinc plating does provide corrosion resistance, it may not be suitable for applications exposed to highly corrosive environments or extreme weather conditions. In such cases, more robust coatings, such as galvanization or stainless steel, may be necessary. Zinc-plated steel is a practical choice for indoor or dry conditions where moderate corrosion resistance and affordability are essential.
Brass & Bronze
Brass and Bronze are copper alloys with good corrosion resistance. More expensive than steel, these materials are typically used for decorative applications.
Alloy Steel
Alloy steel is a type of steel that contains additional alloying elements, such as chromium, molybdenum, nickel, or vanadium, in varying proportions to enhance specific properties. These alloying elements can significantly increase the hardness, strength, and other mechanical properties of the steel. Alloy steel typically offers limited corrosion resistance, and it is often treated with coatings to mitigate corrosion.
if corrosion resistance is a significant concern, other materials like stainless steel or coated alloys should be considered to ensure long-term durability in challenging environments.
Grade/Class & Fastener Strength
Fastener Grade (US) or Class (Metric) refers to the mechanical properties of the fastener material. Generally, a higher number indicated a stronger, more hardened (but also more brittle) fastener.
