We are both the oldest surviving members of our families. As life-long collectors, and inheritors from those who have Gone Before, we must move on some of our Stuff before that (hopefully far-off) day when it becomes our children’s responsibility. Happy to combine for cheaper postage but PLEASE WAIT for combined invoice from me or ask me for one; postage discounts can only be given on combined purchases paid for on a single invoice.

International Buyers please note : Unless the postage method quoted on this listing is shown as Express Courier International or Registered Post International, then your item is being sent either at Large Letter rate or as an ordinary Air Mail Parcel; both of these have NO TRACKING . If you require a more expensive method of posting which comes with tracking, please contact me before you pay. If you accept this cheaper method of posting, PLEASE BE PATIENT ; 20-25 days is not uncommon for air mail delivery from Australia. AUSTRALIAN BUYERS : if your postage method is shown as Standard Delivery, it is being sent as a Large Letter which has NO TRACKING . If you would prefer to pay extra to add tracking please contact me BEFORE you pay.

Jack Ernest Pollard OAM (31 July 1926 – 25 May 2002) was an Australian sports journalist, writer and cricket historian. Born in Sydney, New South Waleson 31 July 1926, Pollard began his journalism career in 1943 as a copy boy at Sydney's Daily Telegraph newspaper. At the age of 18, he was called up to the Australian Army, but a foot injury sustained during an army rugby game saw him sit out nine months at Holsworthy Barracks. The injury may have saved Pollard's life as his assigned platoon was killed in action in New Guinea during World War II. From 1945 to 1947, Pollard lived in post-war Japan working as a sports editor for the armed forces newspaper there. He returned to Sydney briefly, then moved to England, where he worked as a horse racing writer for a newspaper in Sheffield. In 1948, he started work as a correspondent for the Australian Associated Press in London, where he covered many major sporting events such as the 1948 Summer Olympics, the Wimbledon Championships and the 1948 tour of England by Don Bradman's Australian cricket team. Pollard returned to Sydney in 1956, where he worked as a sports reporter until starting his own publishing company (Jack Pollard Publishing), which specialised in books on sport and leisure topics. Pollard was a prolific writer and editor, who produced a large number of sporting reference books, including a definitive five-volume history of Australian cricket, encyclopaedias on rugby union, golf, horse racing and a series of popular fishing guides. Pollard retired from publishing in 1981 to concentrate on writing. He died on 25 May 2002, after suffering a stroke upon his return to Sydney from a research trip in Melbourne. I purchased at auction a large amount of ephemera which I assume is from the Pollard estate. I have no idea whether anyone will want these items but it seemed a pity to let it go to landfill. This is the fishing section – see also the Cricket, Rugby Union, Tennis and general sporting ephemera I have for sale . Jack Pollard edited and published a large number of fishing books and magazines from the 1960s to the 1990s. Titles mentioned in the photos include – Freshwater Fishing in Australia & New Zealand with a Special Guide to Trout Angling; The Scream of the Reel: Deep-Sea, Beach, Estuary and Inland Angling in Australian and New Zealand Waters; Fishing News; Fishing Yearbook. Almost all the items are real photos, some titled and identified on the back, many not. A lot have instructions for use in various publications. I imagine they date 1970s-1980s. Some have photographer’s copyright stamps on the back – I have no idea whether these would still be in force. All are good vintage condition on the faces, except where cropping lines have been drawn – the backs may be discoloured and have writing. I am selling them off in several lots but am VERY happy to combine lots – ask me for a combined postage estimate. Also there is a small bag of fishing slides / transparencies which I am happy to give away to anyone who buys one of these lots for the cost of any extra postage (possibly nothing, possibly up to $9.) I am hoping there may be some fishing enthusiasts out there who would find these interesting. 3 REAL PHOTOS MOUNT ISA FISH CRABS SHARK? 1970s 1980s #2 “When people hear Mount Isa, fishing isn’t what immediately comes to mind. Images of arid landscapes, broad-hatted stockmen slouched on gangly horses and intensive mining activity cloak the thoughts of top-class freshwater fishing. And yet, Mount Isa is actually a wonderful destination for keen or even semi-keen anglers. Mount Isa provides the ideal base for exploring two of Australia’s loveliest man-made lakes or freshwater impoundments.” 3 large photos 25.5 cms x 20 cms. A young girl with several fish, a man with 2 large crabs, what may be a small shark? I have no idea. With back stamps for a Mount Isa photographer.

My Items

  • The items I sell are vintage; they are second hand, old, sometimes very old. I try to describe and photograph my items honestly and to the best of my ability; however if pristine condition is very important to you, I feel you should be buying from a regular shop, where you can inspect the items personally. Please note that all my items are sold "as is", with no warranty implied, and that the photos form part of the description, which should be read carefully. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM PLEASE CONTACT ME VIA ASK A QUESTION - BOTTOM LEFT OF EVERY LISTING.

Shipping and Payment Terms; Combining Items
  • Payment in Australia may be made by PayPal or Bank Deposit, International payments by PayPal only
  • If you win more than one item in a listing please wait for a combined invoice from me to save you on postage and insurance costs. I always wait until the last item in an auction listing finishes before sending invoices in case buyers win more than one item. If you win an item and are planning to bid on an item in a later-finishing auction, please email me to let me know, and I will wait until that auction has finished to send you a combined invoice
  • I would normally expect payment within 5 days; if for some reason this is not possible, please contact me to explain
  • Many of my items are very light and could be combined without much (or any) increase in postage costs. Once the value of a parcel exceeds $100 postal insurance must be paid. Within Australia this costs $4.45; the cost for  Registered Post International varies - please ask for a quote.
  • International buyers please note: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or postage charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's Customs Office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (postage) company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional postage charges.

Problem with a Transaction?

PLEASE contact me first. I am a reasonable human being; if there is a problem I am sure we can work something out that will satisfy us both. Involving eBay should be a last resort – something I hope will not be necessary. Contact Seller is the first option under More Actions on your Purchase History page, Ask Seller a Question is at the bottom left of every listing, or simply Reply to the email I sent when I posted your item. Feedback – Late Shipment Rate eBay’s newest measure to defect Sellers is the Late Shipment Rate. As we all know, Sellers do not PERSONALLY deliver packages. Once I take an item to the Post Office, delivery time is up to Australia Post or International Carriers. The estimated time of arrival that eBay gives is often grossly inadequate, especially to areas far from me, or overseas. If you choose to leave Feedback, eBay may ask you whether your item arrived within the estimated delivery time. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION ; it is not compulsory, just as Feedback is not compulsory. If you are happy with the time of arrival, or know it arrived within the given dates, you can answer Yes if you want to. If you can’t remember, or realise that delivery times are beyond my control, I would encourage you not to answer the question. It has always been my policy to leave Positive Feedback when an item has been paid for and I have posted the parcel. I will always email you to let you know when that occurs, so you may know when to expect the parcel; if the parcel has tracking, I will let you know the number, and also upload it to eBay so that you can track its progress there.

Leaving Feedback is not compulsory; if you want to leave me Positive Feedback, then that is very nice and I appreciate it. If you have some problem with our transaction, and you feel like leaving me Neutral or Negative Feedback, please contact me BEFORE leaving Feedback so that we can work something out that will leave us both feeling happier. I always try to describe my items fully and honestly, and work hard to try and ensure that my buyers are satisfied. However I am only human; SHOULD a problem arise please contact me FIRST . Sorry about the length of this message; I assume that you may want to remain an eBay buyer, and hope that if you buy from me your experience will be a happy one. It is just that with the way things are changing, there may no longer be small sellers of vintage items (like me) on eBay to buy from.
