Zirconium dioxide oxygen sensors are currently the most commonly used sensor.This type of sensor can be used as a fuel regulating pre-catalytic or diagnostic post-catalytic sensor,depending on the vehicle.The Zirconium dioxide oxygen sensor's core incorporates a hollow thimble-shaped Zirconium dioxide ceramic element,which is coated with a thin micro porous layer of platinum on both inner and outer surfaces. The hollow thimble is designed to allow ambient air to flow from the sensor body to the ceramic element.Early sensor design used the heat energy of the exhaust gas to raise the temperature of the element.
One wire is the sensor signal, one is the isolated sensor signal ground and the remaining two are used to supply a voltage to the internal heater.
