Bafétimbi Gomis , born on August 6, 1985, is a distinguished French professional footballer renowned for his prowess as a striker. As of now, he plies his trade with the J1 League club Kawasaki Frontale.

Gomis's journey in football commenced in his youth, where he honed his skills with Saint-Étienne. In 2004, he made his breakthrough into professional football with the same club, later spending a stint on loan at Troyes in Ligue 2. The turning point came in 2009 when he made a high-profile move to Lyon, Saint-Étienne's Derby du Rhone rivals, in a €13 million deal.

During his five seasons at Lyon's Stade Gerland, Gomis etched his name in the annals of football history, playing 244 official matches and netting 95 goals. His contributions were pivotal in Lyon securing the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions in 2012. In 2014, he ventured into the Premier League, signing with Swansea City on a free transfer. A brief return to France with Marseille followed before he joined Galatasaray, clinching the Süper Lig title in 2018 while emerging as the top scorer.

Gomis's international career saw him earn 12 caps for the France national team from 2008 to 2013, notching three goals. He was part of the squad for UEFA Euro 2008.

In 2009, Gomis made a notable move to Olympique Lyonnais for €13 million, becoming only the sixth player to transfer directly from Saint-Étienne to Lyon.  Gomis showcased his goal-scoring prowess in the 2011–12 Ligue 1 campaign, notably scoring a winning goal against Nice and a first-half brace against Girondins de Bordeaux.  The striker's remarkable performance in the 2011–12 UEFA Champions League included a four-goal haul in the group stage, setting a new record for the fastest Champions League hat-trick at that time.  Gomis continued to impress, scoring crucial goals for Lyon against top-tier opponents, such as the dramatic 4–4 draw against PSG in 2012.

Gomis faced a choice between representing France or Senegal internationally. He was called up for the provisional French UEFA Euro 2008 squad and made a significant impact by scoring two goals in a warm-up match against Ecuador.

Laurent Blanc called up Gomis for UEFA Euro 2012 qualification matches in 2011, reflecting his consistent performances with Lyon.

Gomis has a medical condition, suspected to be reflex syncope, making him susceptible to fainting during moments of stress, an aspect that adds a unique dimension to his career.

Beyond the field, Gomis is recognized for his iconic goal celebration, "The Black Panther," inspired by Salif Keita. This celebration, captured in an image nominated for football picture of the year, has become a notable feature in the FIFA video game series, debuting in FIFA 17.

In addition to his contributions on the pitch, Gomis is connected to the football world through familial ties, being the cousin of fellow footballers Nampalys Mendy and Alexandre Mendy.

The 2012–13 season marked Olympique Lyonnais's 63rd professional campaign since its establishment in 1950.
