💀 8 Things Watch Out For When Ordering a GPS Tracker💀

1. BYO SIM card

Before buying a $5 SIM card check the terms and conditions. Here's ALDI's.* "You must not use the service (SIM card) for... GPS/Tracking devices". Don't waste your time and money. A cheap SIM card can be shut off at any time. We provide the best SIM card that won't be shut off and it's ready for 5G.

2. High Monthly/Yearly Fees

Do not waste your time with a GPS tracker that charges insanely high monthly or yearly fees. Anything above $13 Per Month is a complete rip-off. Why? 1. They are either trying to make a quick buck, taking advantage of people who don't know that their monthly fees are expensive. 2. They don't know how to lower the cost of their data so they pass on the extra data charges to their clients. Solid GPS' monthly fee is $7 a month with unlimited GPS transmissions.

3. Lock-in Contracts

We have seen some absolutely disgusting lock-in contracts while building Solid GPS. One company we found charges a MINIMUM of $29 a month. Locking you into a 24-month contract where you will pay a total of $696. Want to break the contract early? You have to pay 50% of the remaining balance on your contract 😲. So do yourself a favour and either pay a month or a year at a time, don't sign a contract. Solid GPS has a monthly or yearly subscription for $7 and $70 respectively.

4. Free or Insecure Tracking Applications

In the wise words of Andrew Lewis "If you are not paying for it, you're not the customer; you're the product being sold". That quote applies if you're thinking of using a free tracking application. A lot of GPS tracking companies use that as a selling point for their trackers. What they fail to disclose is that they are selling your tracking data. Our tracking dashboard and phone apps are made by us, here in Australia and they're included in the monthly/yearly subscription.

5. Outsourced/Lacking Customer Support

Picture this, you've just ordered your very own eBay tracker. It arrives a couple of days later, you open the package and Voilà! It doesn't turn on. 6. Bluetooth Trackers

There's a bit of misconception when it comes to Bluetooth trackers. Sure they're good but good enough to track your car or motorcycle? They aren't built for protecting against theft. Why? Bluetooth trackers only have a range of 100 metres. If a thief is going to steal your vehicle they're going to take it further than a hundred meters.

7. Wired-In GPS Trackers

Controversial Opinion: You should NOT use a GPS tracker that requires wiring Yes, you should if you're looking to manage your fleet of trucks but most people aren't doing that. Here's why" 1. Wiring or wire splicing a GPS tracker is needlessly complex and wastes your time. 2. The first place a thief will check is for any suspicious wires around the battery. 3. There's the possibility of draining your vehicle's battery if you don't use it for a while 4. If thieves never turn on your vehicle, the tracker will never activate.  Why risk it? 8. Outdated Tech
