RME presents the Digiface, a highly extended version of thewell-known PCI card Project Hammerfall (DIGI9652). Digiface offers 3 ADAToptical I/Os, ADAT-Sync In, SPDIF I/O and word clock I/O like its predecessor. On top, there are 2 MIDI I/Os and a separate analog line out. Thanks to itsunique 'Zero CPU Load' technology Hammerfall DSP guarantees highest performanceand lowest latency on both notebooks and desktops!
Digiface provides interesting features:
3 x ADAT digital I/O, based on RME's reliable Bitclock PLL
1 x SPDIF digital I/O, based on RME's reliable DIGI96technology
1 x ADAT Sync In (9-pin D-type) for sample accuratetransfers
1 x Word clock I/O (BNC)
1 x analog Line/headphone output, separate output forindependent submix
2 x MIDI I/O, 32 channels high-speed MIDI
HDSP Meter Bridge: freely scalable level meters, peak- andRMS calculation directly in hardware
TotalMix: 1456 channel mixer with 40 bit internal resolution
S/MUX poured in hardware: 12 channels 24-Bit/96kHz forrecord and playback on ADAT optical
DIGICheck, RMEs unique metering- and analyse tool
... and numerous other features found already in theHammerfall series. And all this for an unbeatable price!
Features
The small box using half the space of a 19" rackdoesn't show the included outstanding power and extensive features at firstglance. The front panel hosts some useful status LEDs, like MIDI state, lockstate of the digital inputs and error state of the host-bus. Additionallythere's a high-quality 24-Bit/96kHz analog line output, also usable withheadphones, and one MIDI I/O.
The back of the Digiface offers real Hammerfallconnectivity: 1 x MIDI I/O, 3 x ADAT I/O, SPDIF I/O, ADAT Sync In and wordclock I/O. This compact multi-Channel solution has everything you need.
The Digiface can be used with laptops as well as desktopcomputers. The connection to notebooks is achieved via a CardBus card, theconnection to desktops via a PCI card or PCI Express card. These interfaces aresold separately.
Settings
Just click on the hammer symbol in the systray of thetaskbar and the settings dialog of the Digiface comes up. The clear structured, easy to understand window plus the unique informative status windows for inputsignal, clock mode, sample rate and time code make your work with HammerfallDSP System to a real pleasure. With a simple mouse click you gain access to thefull power of your system.
When working with several digital sources it is not onlynecessary to know if these are properly locked, but also if they are totallysynchronized. RMEs exclusive SyncCheck ® checks all input signals and displaystheir actual state, and thanks to our new Intelligent Clock Control (ICC) concept you have all clocks and states undercontrol - with ease.
A display of the time code at the ADAT Sync-In port offers aquick check of the communication between external device and Hammerfall.

RME HDSP Cardbus
The Cardbus Interface
For the Hammerfall DSP I/O-boxes Digiface, Multiface andRPM, RME have developed a world-exclusive PCMCIA type II card in Zero waitstate CardBus Busmaster technology. With up to 130 MB/s transfer rate in bothdirections the same basic performance is provided on a notebook as a PCI cardwould offer on a desktop computer. Additionally the card offers highestcompatibility by being 100% Plug & Play compatible under Windows and MacOS, and being able to share interrupts. The card itself will only use oneinterrupt (IRQ) for all functions (audio/MIDI.)
The connection between CardBus card and I/O-box isestablished using ordinary FireWire cable (6-pin IEEE 1394a). The data transferdoes not use FireWire protocol, but a proprietary bus protocol by RME. Thesupplied cable has a length of 4 m (12 ft.). The CardBus card does not providepower to the attached I/O-box. Therefore a compact and light-weight hi-techswitch-mode power supply is included.
The CardBus shown above ships since mid 2005. In case twoHDSP CardBus shall be used in one laptop, the lower card must be a flatversion, which is also available. It uses a special cable (15-pin Closed LAN to6-pin IEEE1394a, included), with a length of 4 meters (12 ft.). The flat cardis 100% identical and compatible, but does not offer the Secure BIOS technologyof the upper version.
