SASS EMPORIA are delighted to offer this striking multi-lava glazed ceramic handled vase produced by Scheurich  of Germany . Still in operation today, and based in the Bavarian town of Kleinheubach , Scheurich were the most prolific producers of mid-century German ceramics. Scheurich offered a solid production program of classically proportioned forms and an endless array of exciting decors, that are highly collected today. In this example, we see the iconic first generation form 414-16 , designed by the patriarch of modern West German form design, Heinz Siery. Initially a concept created in the 1950's, Scheurich went onto large scale production of the 414 in the 1960's right up until when the second generation of 414 was released in 1972. Siery's version is a petite curvaceous vessel with an elegant decorative handle. Decorated in an extreme vivid Prussian Blue lava glaze, the textured finish shimmers over a matte crusty blackened underglaze that is revealed through the pits and craters formed during the decorative firing process. This is undoubtedly one of Scheurich's most spectacular 'fat lava' decors matched with an absolute mid-century ceramic icon!
