This was a limited edition of only 170 bottles, with bottle number 001 selling at a silent auction for $2500. It was Overeem's first Bourbon cask release, bottled only a month prior to the Lark/Overeem merger. Accordingly, it is a significant milestone in the distillery’s history and therefore of consequence in Tasmanian whisky lore more generally.
There is a certificate of authenticity signed by Casey Overeem.
Tasting notes
Bright gold colour is flawless and pure. Plenty of personality in the aroma as sweet malt integrates with cocoa, vanilla and gobstopper in the initial pass followed by some attractive ester notes in the second phase, in particular white peach, nectarine and hints of banana cake. A light entry follows through to a semi-sweet, silk textured mid palate that’s fruity-yet-dry and balanced by a delicate spicy flourish. The attractive nectarine / banana cake notes return at the fade. Shows excellent length.
