Here we have an Original Early 1980's 'First Edition' Old Masters Barracuda Cue. These cues are like finding hen's teeth, particularly a 3/4 piece version which was the very top of the range and this cue hits like a dream! with an incredible amount of power and reaction with the cue ball.  This cue is a First Edition Old Masters which was made at the Kirkham factory in Lancashire, England between 1981 - 1992 when the company was run by the original founder Roger Bucknall and Kevin Muncaster was the main cue maker. This can be confirmed by the shape and style of the name badge and the presence of a weight stamp. The deep golden aged patina on the shaft wood indicates the cue was made in the very early years of production.  The cue has the following specifications: - Solid Macassar Ebony Handmade Butt - Straight grained English Ash Shaft  - Paduk and Maple Front Splices - Length: 56.5 inches - Tip Size: 8mm  - Tip: New Kamui Brown Medium - Ferrule: Black Fibre  - Weight: 18.35 ounces - Refinished with linseed oil and bees wax - Straightness: I have followed the advice given by Parris cues   'Close one eye and sight down the cue, from the end of the butt through to the tip (as if you are sighting a rifle) whilst turning the cue as you sight down it. I have done this and t he cue looks very straight.  This is a much more reliable method of checking a cue for straightness compared to the traditional method of rolling a cue on the snooker table. These cues were made with a name badge and slightly thicker butt to give the cue more power and have a gradual taper which will naturally make the cue wobble when rolled on a table (source;  ( https://www.parriscues.com/cue_care/)  . As cue maker's Roger and Kevin were the reason Barracuda cues became world re-known as having excellent quality construction and as superior playing cues. Mark Williams won his main titles with his Barracuda Gold Medal, Ray Reardon used one in the finals of the world championship, Jim Wych still uses his, Alex Higgins was often at the workshop and John Higgins uses a cue made by Kevin.   Sadly, the  cues are no longer made in England and are mass produced in China. As such, these early original versions are now getting harder and harder to find.
