Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz 2001 Perfectly Cellared
The Bin 28, like the Bin 128 was part of a stable of experimental wines developed by Max Schubert in 1962. The wine took its name from the Kalimna Vineyard which is located in the Barossa Valley and purchased by the company in 1945. Today the Kalimna vineyard is the source of only a small portion of the fruit for this excellent wine.
A classic Australian Shiraz, named after Penfolds' Kalimna Vineyard in the Barossa Valley. It is a wine known internationally for its consistent quality, value for money and cellaring potential. Premium Shiraz grapes from the low yielding Kalimna Vineyard are selected, as well as Shiraz from other renowned South Australian wine districts to provide the full spectrum of varietal aromas and flavours, thereby adding complexity to the wine
The wine was matured for 12 months in used American oak. Opaque black purple colour, with black purple hue. Impressive nose, with aroma of black pepper, spice, mocca, liquorice and violets. The palate has a much tighter structure than in previous years that will fare well for many years. Flavours of mocca, spice and black pepper emerge, followed by plum, liquorice and vanilla. Fine grained tannins, excellent balance. Very long aftertaste with vanilla, spice and mocca.
